Regular Season Round 16: Manati - Quebradillas 74-84
Date: April 8, 2015
We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when tenth ranked Quebradillas (7-9) defeated on the road 9th ranked Manati (6-9) 84-74. The game was mostly controlled by Quebradillas. Manati was better in fourth quarter 20-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Manati 47-36 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 25 personal fouls committed by Manati helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The winners were led by American forward Malcolm Thomas (206-88, college: San Diego St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 15 rebounds and the other American import forward Tyler Wilkerson (203-88, college: Marshall) supported him with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Even 21 points and 4 assists by American point guard Maalik Wayns (185-91, college: Villanova) did not help to save the game for Manati. The former international swingman Edwin Ubiles (198-86, college: Siena) added 14 points for lost side. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Quebradillas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Guaynabo and Mayaguez. Manati at the other side dropped to the eleventh position with nine games lost. Quebradillas' next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Caciques (#12) in Humacao. Manati will play on the road against Atleticos in San German and hope to win that game.
