BSN top team - Capitanes (14-5) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat tenth ranked Manati (8-11) 83-69. The game was mostly controlled by Capitanes. Manati managed to win third quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Manati's 34. Capitanes had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) supported him with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Even 18 points and 7 rebounds by American forward Lorrenzo Wade (198-85, college: San Diego St.) did not help to save the game for Manati. Weyinmi Rose added 14 points for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Manati's coach Sergio Hernandez rotated ten players and allowed the starting five to rest. Capitanes have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 14-5 record. Loser Manati keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost. Capitanes will meet at home bottom-ranked Caciques (#12) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Manati will play against Brujos in Guayama and hope to secure a win.
