There was no surprise when 6th ranked Kumamoto V. (6-44) lost at home to third ranked Toshiba Thunders (36-13) 96-90 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 11 points at the halftime before their 55-38 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Toshiba Thunders made 16-of-17 free shots (94.1 percent) during the game. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Toshiba Thunders made 8 blocks. It was a good game for American forward Nick Fazekas (211-85, college: Nevada) who led his team to a victory with 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The former international swingman Naoto Tsuji (185-89) contributed with 19 points and 4 steals for the winners. American swingman Garlon Green (201-91, college: TCU) answered with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and forward Tenyoku Yo (194-88) added 18 points in the effort for Kumamoto V.Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toshiba Thunders have an impressive series of six victories in a row. Defending champion maintains third place with 36-13 record having five points less than leader Hitachi SR. Kumamoto V. lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 44 games lost. Toshiba Thunders will face Hyogo S. (#4) at home in the next round. Kumamoto V. will play against Toyota Alvark in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
