Regular Season Round 21: Humacao - Arecibo 91-101

Everything went according to plan in Humacao where first ranked Capitanes (15-5) beat bottom-ranked Caciques (2-19) 101-91 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Capitanes. Caciques was better in third quarter 22-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Capitanes dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Caciques' 44. It was a great shooting night for Capitanes especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners and the former international swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) chipped in 23 points (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). The best for the losing side was international Devon Collier (203-91, college: Oregon St.) with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American swingman Ollie Bailey (201-85, college: Oklahoma City) scored 25 points. Five Capitanes and four Caciques players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Capitanes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 15-5 record. Caciques lost tenth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 19 lost games. Capitanes will face Maratonistas (#4) in Coamo in the next round. Caciques will play on the road against Brujos (#5) in Guayama and hope to win that game.
