Rather predictable result in La Guaira where third ranked Bucaneros (20-9) defeated 6th ranked Guaiqueries (15-12) 103-88 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Bucaneros. Guaiqueries managed to win fourth quarter 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bucaneros forced 20 Guaiqueries turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Guaiqueries' players. The former international guard Jesus Centeno (190-85) stepped up and scored 25 points and 9 assists for the winners and American forward Pete Mickeal (199-78, college: Cincinnati, agency: Tycoon Sports Inc.) chipped in 24 points and 8 rebounds. At the losing side American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) responded with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and the former international swingman Francisco Centeno (201-85) scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Five Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaneros maintains third place with 20-9 record having just one point less than leader Marinos. Guaiqueries at the other side keep the sixth position with 12 games lost. Bucaneros are again looking forward to face Guaiqueries (#6) in Porlamar in the next round. Guaiqueries will have a break next round.
