Aomori Watts upset Sendai 89ers in the opener. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Sendai 89ers won fourth quarter 26-23. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Sendai 89ers 43-28 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sendai 89ers were plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Panamanian forward Gyno Pomare (203-86, college: San Diego) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American power forward Paul Williams (208-83, college: St.Bonaventure, agency: I.D.S. Law) chipped in 21 points and 13 rebounds. Aomori Watts' coach Koshirashi Munakata allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American guard Kejuan Johnson (193-85, college: Long Beach St., agency: Inception Sports) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import guard Wendell White (198-84, college: UNLV) scored 21 points.
