Brazil celebrated the first victory in Group A. They overcame Puerto Rico for 1-1 record. Jaqueline Silvestre posted 13 points to lead the winners. Brazil jumped to a 20:14 lead after ten minutes. They ensured a 46:40 lead before the fourth quarter. Puerto Rico held Brazil to 16 points in the final frame but could not avoid the defeat. Kelly Santos finished with 11 points for the winners. Carla Corijo responded with game-high 20 points for Puerto Rico.
