Puerto Rico celebrated the first victory in Edmonton. They nipped Dominican Republic for 1-2 record in Group A. Sandra Garcia notched 16 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Puerto Rico grabbed a 31:28 halftime lead. Dominican Republic pulled ahead for a one-point lead at the final intermission. But Puerto Rico bounced back with a 22:13 run in the fourth frame to seal the win. Ali Gibson delivered 11 points in the victory. Cheisey Hernandez and Genesis Evangelista responded with 16 points each for Dominican Republic.
