Nicaragua held off El Salvador in the opening game in Group B. Carlos Gonzalez stepped up with 34 points to lead the winners. Nicaragua trailed by as many as 4 points at halftime 31:35. But Nicaragua ignited a 22:14 rally in the third term to take a 4-point lead. They dropped 22 points in the fourth frame and sealed the win. Vansdell Thomas accounted for 18 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. James Valladares responded with 18 points and 10 boards in the loss.
