Regular Season Round 6: Carolina - Manatee 79-89

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Gigantes (5-1) in Carolina on Tuesday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Atenienses (3-1) 89-79. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Gigantes. The game was mostly controlled by Atenienses. Gigantes managed to win second period 24-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gigantes 38-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Atenienses looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Atenienses made 7 blocks. It was a good game for international center Sandra Garcia (190-90, college: Wake Forest) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds. International point guard Dayshalee Salaman (163-90, college: Lincoln Memorial) contributed with 21 points and 9 assists for the winners. International Jazmine Sepulveda (178-85, college: S.Florida, agency: Merit Management Group) replied with 20 points and 5 rebounds and the former international guard Carla Cortijo (172-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) added 18 points and 5 assists in the effort for Gigantes. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Atenienses have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Defending champion Gigantes still keep top position with one game lost. Atenienses are looking forward to face Montaneras (#4) in Morovis in the next round. Gigantes will have a break next round.
