Regular Season Round 1: Aalstar - Spirou 72-75

A very close game took place in Aalst between Spirou Charleroi and Okapi Aalstar. Spirou Charleroi (1-0) got a very close victory on the road over Okapi Aalstar (0-1). Spirou Charleroi managed to escape with a 3-point win 75-72 on Saturday evening. Okapi Aalstar was trailing by 2 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 23-17 charge of Spirou Charleroi, which allowed them to win the game. They made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. American point guard Billy Baron (188-90, college: Canisius) stepped up and scored 25 points and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Seamus Boxley (201-82, college: Portland St.) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side Samoan-American power forward John Tofi (203-84, college: UTEP, agency: Pensack Sports) responded with 13 points and 5 rebounds and naturalized American forward Ian Hanavan (202-80, college: Evansville, agency: Interperformances) scored 8 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Spirou Charleroi will meet at home Liege Basket in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Okapi Aalstar will play against Leuven Bears and hope to win that game.
