Very significant was Gigantes' (#1, 8-2) victory against 4th placed Cangrejeras (4-8) 89-68. The game without a history. Gigantes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Cangrejeras' 38. It was an exceptional evening for the former international guard Carla Cortijo (172-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who led the winners and scored 8 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists. American center Rebecca Bruszewski (185-88, college: Notre Dame) accounted for 12 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side. Four Gigantes players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Michelle Gonzalez (167-89, college: FIU) came up with 15 points and 5 assists and American guard Morgan Jones (188-92, college: Florida St.) added 13 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Cangrejeras in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 8-2 record, which they share with Manatee. Cangrejeras at the other side dropped to the fifth position with eight games lost. Gigantes will play against Montaneras (#4) in Morovis in the next round. Cangrejeras will have a break next round.
