Very significant was Gigantes' (#1, 10-2) victory against 4th ranked Montaneras (6-7) 75-70. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-13. But Montaneras won second period 16-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international forward Yolanda Jones (184-84, college: La-Lafayette) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international guard Carla Cortijo (172-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) supported her with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Even a double-double of 14 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Jennifer George (188, college: Florida) did not help to save the game for Montaneras. The former international point guard Pamela Rosado (165-86) added 16 points and 5 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-2 record. Montaneras at the other side keep the fourth place with seven games lost. Gigantes will play against Pollitas (#5) in Isabela in the next round. Montaneras will play on the road against Leonas in Ponce and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
