An interesting game for Gigantes (14-2) which hosted in Carolina their biggest opponent Atenienses (12-5). First ranked Gigantes managed to get a 4-point victory 87-83. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Atenienses. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 26-17 charge, which allowed them to win the game. It was an exceptional evening for American center Rebecca Bruszewski (185-88, college: Notre Dame) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds. The former international guard Carla Cortijo (172-87, college: Texas, agency: Gamble Sports Management) accounted for 25 points and 5 assists for the winning side. American guard Sugar Rodgers (180-89, college: Georgetown) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and international center Sandra Garcia (190-90, college: Wake Forest) added 21 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Atenienses in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gigantes have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-2 record. Loser Atenienses keep the second position with five games lost. Gigantes will meet at home Indias (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Atenienses will play against Pollitas and hope to secure a win.
