There was a minor upset in Izmir where higher ranked Balikesir (2-3) was defeated by fourteenth ranked Gelisim (2-3) 83-70. The game was mostly controlled by Gelisim. Balikesir was better in third quarter 22-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Gelisim players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Point guard Emir Gokalp (185-95) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 8 assists. Tamer Gurpinar (-92) contributed with 15 points (perfect from the field making all six shots) for the winners. Four Gelisim players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Gelisim moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Balikesir. Balikesir lost their third game in a row. Gelisim's next round opponent will be higher ranked Tofas (#3) in Bursa and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
