Bottom-ranked PAOK (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 104-99 overtime loss to fifth ranked Olympiacos (3-1) in Thessaloniki on Monday evening. PAOK was tied after three quarters and then recorded another tie at the end of regular time. They were eventually defeated in overtime 12-17s. Olympiacos dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to PAOK's 34. They outrebounded PAOK 43-32 including a 33-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. PAOK was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. American-Italian guard Daniel Hackett (199-87, college: USC, agency: Two Points) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. The former international Vassilis Spanoulis (193-82, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 20 points and 6 assists. Olympiacos' coach Giannis Sferopoulos used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Serbian power forward Nikola Markovic (208-89) produced 17 points and 7 rebounds and Kostas Kakaroudis (204-83) added 18 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Aris and Nea Kifisia. Loser PAOK still closes the standings with four games lost. Olympiacos will face Lavrio (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. PAOK will play against AGOR in Rethymno and hopes to get finally their first victory.
