There was a minor upset in Melbourne where one of their biggest challengers Townsville Fire (3-2) was defeated by seventh ranked Boomers (3-2) 84-75 on Monday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 45-35 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Boomers outrebounded Townsville Fire 40-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international swingman Tess Madgen (180-90) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international center Elyse Penaluna (193-88) who added 12 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Five Boomers players scored in double figures. At the losing side the former international center Suzy Batkovic-Brown (195-80) responded with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 12 rebounds and Canadian forward Tamara Tatham (185-85, college: Massachusetts, agency: Regeneracom Sports) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Townsville Fire's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Boomers moved-up to third place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Townsville Fire. Boomers will face league's leader SEQ in Crestmead in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Townsville Fire will play at home against Sydney Uni Flames and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
