Regular Season Round 8: Spojnia - GKS Tychy 59-85

The biggest surprise of round 8 in 1Liga was guest GKS Tychy's (5-3) easy road victory over Spojnia (#8) 85-59 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Spojnia. GKS Tychy dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Spojnia's 26. GKS Tychy forced 20 Spojnia turnovers. The best player for the winners was Marek Piechowicz (201-88) who scored 17 points. The former international power forward Wojciech Barycz (208-84, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points. Guard Lukasz Pacocha (185-82, agency: Promotex) produced 10 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and center Karol Pytys (202-85) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. GKS Tychy moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Spojnia at the other side keeps the eighth position with four games lost. GKS Tychy is looking forward to face higher ranked Sokol Lancut (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Spojnia will play against Slask 2 Wroclaw (#14) and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
