Regular Season Round 5: Banvit BK - Aris 96-84

Round 5 in Eurocup means a new league leader. The biggest surprise took place in Balikesir where host Turkish Banvit BK (2-3) beat league's leader Greek Aris (3-2) 96-84 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aris. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-84. Banvit BK outrebounded Aris 43-17 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. 26 personal fouls committed by Aris helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was Slovenian center Gasper Vidmar (211-87) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). American point guard Courtney Fortson (180-88, college: Arkansas, agency: Three Eye Sports) chipped in a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. American guard Dominic Waters (185-86, college: Portland St.) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 assists and the other American import guard Jerel McNeal (191-87, college: Marquette) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Five Banvit BK and four Aris players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Banvit BK maintains fifth place in Group D with 2-3 record, which they share with Steaua CSM. Aris at the other side dropped to the second position with two games lost. They share it with Trabzonspor and Unics. They were replaced at the leadership position by Dolomiti En. TR. Aris will play next round against strong Trabzonspor trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Banvit BK will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Buducnost in Podgorica.
