Regular Season Round 9: Basket Kosice - GBA Sparta 74-66

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Sparta Praha (5-4) against ninth ranked Basket Kosice (3-5) on Friday night. Visiting Sparta Praha was defeated by Basket Kosice in a tough game in Kosice 66-74. Basket Kosice dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Sparta Praha's 38. They outrebounded Sparta Praha 43-25 including a 19-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was power forward Dusan Hlavacek (197-77) who scored 23 points and 8 rebounds. Forward Jakub Zavadil (205-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Four Basket Kosice players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Marek Welsch (170-99) who recorded 20 points and Spanish swingman Diamond Onwuka (201-97) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Basket Kosice moved-up to eighth place in Group A, which they share with Kara Trutnov. Sparta Praha at the other side dropped to the fifth position with four games lost. Basket Kosice's next round opponent will be higher ranked Sokol Pisek (#7) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sparta Praha will play against the league's leader Nymburk B where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
