Regular Season Round 8: Gran Canaria - Tenerife Naut. 77-82

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Gran Canaria (1-4) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Tenerife Naut. (4-1) 82-77 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-21. But Gran Canaria won second period 21-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Tenerife Naut. won last quarter 19-15. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Niang Sergine (200-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Ayoze Alonso (187-91) who added 14 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Four Tenerife Naut. players scored in double figures. Tenerife Naut.'s coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Senegalese forward Mouhamed Barro (205-95) responded with 25 points and 8 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) and Latvian center Anzejs Pasecniks (216-95, college: VEF skola) scored 8 points and 14 rebounds. Tenerife Naut. moved-up to second place in Group B, which they share with Albacete. Gran Canaria lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with four games lost. Tenerife Naut. will face Casvi (#14) in Villaviciosa in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Real Madrid II and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
