Regular Season Round 9: Linense - San Juan 88-78

Very expected game in La Linea where 6th ranked San Juan (2-3) was defeated by second ranked Linense (4-1) 88-78 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Linense. San Juan was better in second period 27-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Linense won last quarter 22-14. Linense outrebounded San Juan 39-25 including 19 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. The best player for the winners was center Jose Maria Balmon (204-81, agency: Duran International) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists. Point guard Miguel Ortega (188-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 assists and 5 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was center Javier Gonzalez (207-92) who recorded 22 points and guard Antonio Rodriguez (185-78) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four San Juan players scored in double figures. San Juan's coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the third consecutive win for Linense. Newly promoted Linense maintains second place in Group D-West with 4-1 record despite having the same number of points like the leader Andujar, which they share with San Fernando. San Juan at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. Linense will face league's leader Plasencia on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. San Juan will play against San Fernando (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
