Regular Season Round 8: Rivas Promete - Leganes 78-54

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Leganes (3-5) was outleveled on the road by fifth ranked Rivas Promete (6-2) 78-54 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rivas Promete. Leganes was better in fourth quarter 19-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Leganes was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Power forward Veronica Matoso (185-88, agency: Josep and Nicolas) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Lithuanian power forward Dovile Miliauskaite (187-89, college: Towson, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five Rivas Promete players scored in double figures. Celia Menendez (186-90, agency: Josep and Nicolas) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and swingman Estela Rubio (172-86) added 13 points and 4 steals in the effort for Leganes. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Rivas Promete have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with UCAM Jairis. Leganes lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Rivas Promete will face league's leader Alcobendas on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leganes will play against Olimpico 64 (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
