Regular Season Round 7: Jurmala - Barsy Atyrau 66-72

Another exciting game was between fifth ranked Kazakhstan Barsy Atyrau and 6th ranked Latvian Jurmala where Barsy Atyrau (3-4) beat Jurmala (2-5) on the road 72-66. The game without a history. Barsy Atyrau led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Jurmala's 28. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Mikhail Evstigneev (202-84) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 6 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). American guard Ryan Cook (190-90, college: UMBC) contributed with 15 points and 4 assists for the winners. Cook is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Barsy Atyrau players scored in double figures. point guard Edgars Jeromanovs (186-86) answered with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and American forward Andrew Smith (206-92, college: Liberty) added 15 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Jurmala. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Barsy Atyrau maintains fifth place with 3-4 record. Jurmala at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Barsy Atyrau will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Jurmala will play on the road against the league's second-placed Liepaja/Triobet (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
