Not a big story in a game when 17th ranked Qingdao Eagles (2-8) lost at home to fourteenth ranked Shanxi Zhongyu (4-6) 130-121 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 37-26. But Qingdao Eagles won second period 29-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Shanxi Zhongyu made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 21 Qingdao Eagles turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Qingdao Eagles were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American players dominated the game. It was a very good performance for guard Dominique Jones (193-88, college: S.Florida) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!), 8 rebounds, 11 assists and 4 steals. Power forward Yancy Gates (206-89, college: Cincinnati) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Shanxi Zhongyu's coach Xujin Zhe used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. point guard Jonathan Gibson (188-87, college: N.Mexico St., agency: Three Eye Sports) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and center Alan Williams (203-93, college: UCSB) added 16 points and 19 rebounds in the effort for Qingdao Eagles. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Shanxi Zhongyu have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to twelfth place, which they share with Fujian QB and North Control B. Qingdao Eagles lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighteenth position with eight games lost. Shanxi Zhongyu will face higher ranked Beijing Ducks (#7) at home in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Qingdao Eagles will play against Jilin Tigers (#17) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
