Regular Season Round 9: Maccabi Rishon - Maccabi Ashdod 77-75

The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Maccabi Rishon as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Maccabi Rishon edged 5th ranked Maccabi Ashdod in Rishon Le-Zion 77-75. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Maccabi Ashdod. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a good game for American point guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona) who led his team to a victory with 25 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. International swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Maccabi Rishon players scored in double figures. American point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) answered with 32 points and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) added 18 points in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Hapoel J-M. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. They share the position with Bnei Hertzeliyya. Maccabi Ashdod will play next round against Bnei Hasharon trying to get back on the winning streak. Maccabi Rishon will try to continue on its current victory against fifth ranked Maccabi Haifa at home.
