Regular Season Round 13: Xinjiang FT - Beijing Ducks 97-91

CBA top team - Xinjiang Flying Tige (12-1) added another victory to their record. This time they beat sixth ranked Beijing Ducks (7-6) in Urumqi 97-91. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-18. But Beijing Ducks won second period 27-25. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Xinjiang Flying Tige forced 20 Beijing Ducks turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Beijing Ducks were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. International center Qi Zhou (217-96) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks for the winners and international forward Gen Li (196-88) chipped in 27 points and 4 assists. At the losing side American power forward Randolph Morris (211-86, college: Kentucky) responded with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 12 rebounds and the other American import guard Stephon Marbury (188-77, college: Georgia Tech) scored 6 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Beijing Ducks' coach LuLei Min rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Xinjiang Flying Tige maintains first place with 12-1 record. Defending champion Beijing Ducks dropped to the seventh position with six games lost. They share it with Zhejiang CB. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play against Shanxi Zhongyu (#10) in Taiyuan in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Beijing Ducks will play on the road against Shandong Bulls in Jinan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
