Regular Season Round 11: Azuqueca - Gran Canaria 80-76

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Azuqueca (6-2) defeated at home 9th ranked Gran Canaria (2-6) 80-76 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gran Canaria trailed by 11 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 29-19 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 76-80 at the end of the game. Azuqueca made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They also forced 22 Gran Canaria turnovers. The best player for the winners was American forward Faronte Drakeford (201, college: Cent.Conn.St.) who scored 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Nigerian-American center Olajide Keshinro (203-90, college: Mercy, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Four Azuqueca players scored in double figures. Latvian center Anzejs Pasecniks (216-95, college: VEF skola) produced 19 points and 7 rebounds and Senegalese forward Mouhamed Barro (205-95) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Gran Canaria's coach Pepe Carrion let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Azuqueca. They moved-up to third place in Group B, which they share with Tenerife Naut. Loser Gran Canaria dropped to the eleventh position with six games lost. Azuqueca will face Casvi (#13) in Villaviciosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Villarrobledo and hope to win that game.
