Regular Season Round 9: Mgzavrebi - Batumi 74-73

The biggest surprise took place in Tbilisi where host Mgzavrebi (4-5) edged league's leader Batumi (6-3) 74-73 on Saturday evening. 24 personal fouls committed by Batumi helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kaheem Ransom (185, college: Sam Houston St.) who scored 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import center Reggie Murphy (208-91, college: Henderson St.) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international Akaki Dvalishvili (206-91) who recorded a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and Ukrainian forward Leonid Stefanishin (199-85) added 19 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Batumi's coach Davit Ustiashvili tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mgzavrebi moved-up to sixth place. Batumi at the other side dropped to the second position with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Kutaisi. Batumi will play next round against Olimpi trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Mgzavrebi will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Dinamo Tbilisi. It will be extra interesting game as Dinamo Tbilisi is their local rival from Tbilisi.
