There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Volpino (5-7) defeated at home 8th ranked Varese Coels. (5-7) 88-71 on Sunday. Volpino made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. It was a good game for point guard Gionata Zampolli (189-85) who led his team to a victory with 29 points. Power forward Michele Squeo (206-89) contributed with 8 points and 15 rebounds for the winners. Volpino's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international point guard Federico Bolzonella (184-84) replied with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and swingman Luca Matteucci (200-85) added 13 points in the effort for Varese Coels.Volpino moved-up to eighth place in B, which they share with Desio and Varese Coels. Varese Coels. lost third consecutive game. Volpino will face higher ranked Vicenza (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
