Regular Season Round 22: Mazeikiai - Petrochema 75-71

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Mazeikiai as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Suduva-Mantinga) loss. Mazeikiai defeated 7th ranked Petrochema at home 75-71. It looked good early as Petrochema took a 12-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Mazeikiai took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 4 points. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Evaldas Saulys (195-93) who helped to win the game recording 16 points and 9 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!). The former international guard Darius Pakamanis (192-81) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Point guard Tadas Sebeziovas (185-85) replied with 17 points and 5 steals and forward Karolis Sarukas (198-95) added 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) in the effort for Petrochema. Petrochema's coach Kestutis Narusevicius tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Mazeikiai (18-4) have an impressive ten-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Suduva-Mantinga. Petrochema at the other side keeps the seventh place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Telsiai. Petrochema will play next round against Nafta-Uni. trying to get back on the winning streak. Mazeikiai will try to continue on its current victory against eighth ranked Telsiai at Telsiu.
