Regular Season Round 18: Helsinki Seagulls - Lapua 79-71

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Lapuan Korikobrat (6-12) was defeated on the road by fifth ranked Helsinki Seagulls (9-8) 79-71. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Lapuan Korikobrat won third quarter 25-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international Carl Lindbom (206-91) notched 24 points to lead the effort and the former international point guard Antto Nikkarinen (185-91, agency: Blacktop Management) supported him with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Four Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. Helsinki Seagulls' coach Mikko Larkas allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 28 points by American guard Lamont Jones (183-90, college: Iona) did not help to save the game for Lapuan Korikobrat. His fellow American import guard Darien Brothers (190-91, college: Richmond) added 14 points. Helsinki Seagulls maintains fifth position with 9-8 record. Lapuan Korikobrat at the other side keeps the ninth place with 12 games lost. Helsinki Seagulls' next round opponent will be higher ranked Kauhajoen Karhu (#3) in Kauhajoki and it may be quite challenging game. Lapuan Korikobrat will play on the road against Kouvot (#4) in Kouvola and hope to win that game.
