Regular Season Round 22: Usti n/Labem - BK Opava 78-75

The most exciting game of round 22 in the NBL took place in Usti nad Labem. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of higher ranked BK Opava (13-8) to eighth ranked BK Usti nad Labem (8-12) 78-75 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of BK Opava. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 19-13 charge, which allowed them to win the game. BK Usti nad Labem made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. BK Usti nad Labem outrebounded BK Opava 40-19 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by BK Opava helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American forward Dana Kendrid (193-88, college: Morehouse) fired 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Forward Ladislav Pecka (197-91) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). Kendrid is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Power forward Martin Gniadek (202-90) produced 20 points and 6 rebounds and center Viktor Cvek (200-89) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. BK Usti nad Labem moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Svitavy. BK Opava at the other side keeps the third position with eight games lost. They share it with BK Pardubice. BK Usti nad Labem is looking forward to face higher ranked USK Praha (#5) at home in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. BK Opava will play against BK Pardubice and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
