Regular Season Round 20: Lietuvos rytas - Siauliai 82-61
Date: January 3, 2016
There was no surprise in Vilnius where 5th ranked Siauliai (8-10) was crushed by second ranked Lietuvos rytas (16-2) 82-61 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 82-61. Lietuvos rytas dominated on the defensive end, holding Siauliai to just 7 points in fourth quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Siauliai's 30. They outrebounded Siauliai 36-21 including a 27-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Lietuvos rytas looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of international center Arturas Gudaitis (208-93) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds and the former international center Antanas Kavaliauskas (208-84, college: Texas A&M, agency: Interperformances) who added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American point guard Mike Scott (183-93, college: Idaho, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) responded with 8 points and 5 assists and center Karolis Guscikas (205-92, agency: Octagon Europe) scored 13 points. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Lietuvos rytas have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-2 record behind leader Zalgiris. Loser Siauliai dropped to the sixth place with ten games lost. Lietuvos rytas will meet Lietkabelis (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Siauliai will play against Juventus in Utena and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
