Regular Season Round 13: Brindisi - Viterbo 52-46

There was an upset when higher ranked Viterbo (6-7) lost on the road to thirteenth ranked Brindisi (3-10) 52-46 on Wednesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 9-4. But Viterbo won second period 16-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Brindisi won last quarter 18-14. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Viterbo to just 4 points in first quarter. Brindisi held Viterbo to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.7 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Viterbo 45-30 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for power forward Luigia Boccadamo (175-94) who helped to win the game recording 21 points and 9 rebounds. The former international swingman Valentina Siccardi (182-82) contributed with 6 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Brindisi's coach Gaetano Ermito used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Giulia Ciavarella (181-97) answered with 17 points and 9 rebounds and Bulgarian forward Roksana Yordanova (184-84) added 10 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Viterbo. Brindisi moved-up to twelfth place in A2. Loser Viterbo dropped to the eighth position with seven games lost. Brindisi will face league's leader La Spezia at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
