Regular Season Round 13: Burgos - La Fecha 86-70

Very predictable result when ninth ranked Burgos (3-6) beat at home 14th ranked La Fecha (1-8) 86-70 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Burgos. La Fecha was better in third quarter 23-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding La Fecha to just 4 points in first quarter. Burgos forced 20 La Fecha turnovers and outrebounded them 40-29 including 27 on the defensive glass. La Fecha was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Alvaro Gomez (192-84) fired a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Center Txomin Lopez (204-78) chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds. Four Burgos players scored in double figures. Burgos' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Forward Arturo Sarmiento (193-94, agency: Dynamics Global Management) produced 23 points and 7 rebounds and guard Jorge Martinez (181-96) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Burgos maintains ninth place in Group A-A with 3-6 record, which they share with Venta de Banos and Clavijo. Newly promoted La Fecha keeps the fourteenth position with eight games lost. Burgos will face higher ranked Cantbasket (#7) in Santander in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. La Fecha will play at home against Venta de Banos (#11) and hope to win that game.
