Regular Season Round 20: Arak - Army 76-63

Date: January 18, 2016
Very predictable result when third ranked Arak (14-5) won against at home 9th ranked Army (3-16) 76-63 on Monday. The game was mostly controlled by Arak. Army was better in second period 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 18-of-23 free shots (78.3 percent) during the game. Croatian power forward Zvonko Buljan (206-87, college: TCU) orchestrated the victory by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 4 steals (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). International Hamed Afagh (193-83) contributed with 5 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Point guard Hamed Beigi (188-95) replied with 9 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Milad Azizi (202) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Army. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Arak have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Arak maintains third position with 14-5 record having just three points less than leader Petrochimi. Army lost third consecutive game. Army at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the ninth place with 16 games lost. Arak will face league's second-placed Naft Abadan on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Army's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Tehran Azad.
