Regular Season Round 16: Brindisi - San Pietro 51-65

Very predictable result when third ranked San Pietro (12-4) won against on the road 13th ranked Brindisi (3-13) 65-51 on Saturday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when San Pietro's pressure prevailed and they won that period 19-7 extending their advantage to 14 points. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Brindisi to just 7 points in fourth quarter. San Pietro made 23-of-28 free shots (82.1 percent) during the game. They also forced 27 Brindisi turnovers and outrebounded them 36-19 including a 29-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when San Pietro made 7 blocks. Brindisi was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for point guard Mariella Santucci (178-97) who helped to win the game recording 16 points. Forward Carlotta Gianolla (181-97) contributed with 12 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four San Pietro players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Valentina Siccardi (182-82) replied with 15 points and 5 rebounds and power forward Luigia Boccadamo (175-94) added 12 points in the effort for Brindisi. Brindisi's coach Gaetano Ermito rotated ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Pietro maintains third position in A2 with 12-4 record having six points less than leader Broni. Newly promoted Brindisi keeps the thirteenth place with 13 games lost. San Pietro will face Civitanova (#10) in Civitanova Marche in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brindisi will play on the road against Salerno and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
