There was no surprise in Samokov where 8th ranked Academik Plovdiv (3-13) was defeated by fourth ranked Rilski (10-6) 84-69 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Rilski. Academik Plovdiv managed to win second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rilski dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Academik Plovdiv's 26. Rilski had a 32-21 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Frank Turner (178-88, college: Canisius, agency: Inception Sports) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import power forward Tony Gugino (207-86, college: Hillsdale) who added 11 points and 14 rebounds during the contest. Rilski's coach Rosen Barchovski used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Serbian power forward Bosko Jovovic (205-83) responded with 20 points and 7 rebounds and swingman Nikola Traykov (197-85, college: Bloomsburg) scored 15 points. Four Academik Plovdiv players scored in double figures. Rilski maintains fourth position with 10-6 record. Newly promoted Academik Plovdiv keeps the eighth place with 13 games lost. They share the position with Yambol. Rilski will meet bottom-ranked Chernomorets (#10) in the next round where they are favorite. Academik Plovdiv will play against Beroe in Stara Zagora and hope to secure a win.
