Regular Season Round 15: Santurtzi - Clavijo 89-85
Date: January 23, 2016
Very predictable result when fourth ranked Santurtzi (9-2) defeated at home 11th ranked Clavijo (3-8) 89-85 on Saturday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Clavijo trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 32-23 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 85-89 at the end of the game. They outrebounded Clavijo 38-24 including 30 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for Santurtzi especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. It was a great evening for forward Juan Torres (196-92) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Forward Alex Hernandez (190-93) helped adding 22 points and 4 steals. The best for the losing side was Lithuanian Mantvydas Staselis (189-94) with 23 points and forward Daniel Lopez Villanueva (195-89) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Santurtzi moved-up to second place in Group A-A, which they share with Ardoi. Loser Clavijo dropped to the tenth position with eight games lost. Santurtzi will face Easo (#5) in San Sebastian in the next round. Clavijo will play at home against Burgos (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
