Rather expected game when 5th ranked Belarusian Gorizont (2-6) was smashed by second ranked Kazakhstan Okzhetpes (6-3) in Minsk 88-54 on Thursday. The game without a history. Okzhetpes led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Gorizont's 40. Okzhetpes had a 31-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Ukrainian forward Liudmyla Naumenko (188-93, agency: LBM Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Ukrainian swingman Alina Iagupova (186-92, agency: LBM Management) contributed with 19 points (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Okzhetpes players scored in double figures. Okzhetpes' coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Forward Galina Shylovich (182-91) answered with 12 points and point guard Natallia Baklaha (170-93) added 8 points and 5 assists in the effort for Gorizont. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Okzhetpes. They maintain second place with 6-3 record having five points less than leader Astana Tigers. Loser Gorizont keeps the fifth position with six games lost. Okzhetpes will have a break next round. Gorizont will play at home against Aistes-LSU (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
