Regular Season Round 17: La Fecha - Mondragon 64-58

There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Mondragon (3-10) lost to fourteenth ranked La Fecha (3-10) in Arroyo Encomienda 58-64 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-10. But Mondragon won second period 15-10. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Forward Arturo Sarmiento (193-94, agency: Dynamics Global Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Jorge Martinez (181-96) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four La Fecha players scored in double figures. Guard Iker Barbero (192-92) answered with 14 points and 4 blocks and power forward Benat Barberena (204-89) added 7 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Mondragon. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. La Fecha moved-up to eleventh place in Group A-A, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Mondragon. La Fecha will face league's leader Pielagos in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
