Fifth-ranked Spartak Pleven (9-9) gave a tough game to first ranked Lukoil Acad. (17-1) on Saturday. The visitors from Sofia managed to secure only three-point victory 97-94. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 26-18 charge, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time and get a 3-point victory in overtime. Lukoil Acad. forced 19 Spartak Pleven turnovers. Croatian forward Zeljko Sakic (204-88, agency: Beo Basket) had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 13 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the former international Pavlin Ivanov (195-93, agency: Beo Basket) chipped in 26 points and 4 assists during the contest. Lukoil Acad.'s coach Toni Dechev used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was power forward Dimitar Marincheshki (200-90) with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Serbian guard Uros Velickovic (190-83) scored 22 points and 4 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Five Spartak Pleven players scored in double figures. Lukoil Acad. have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-1 record. Spartak Pleven at the other side dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost.
