Regular Season Round 18: Gran Canaria - Alcazar 61-67

There was no surprise when 10th ranked Gran Canaria (6-9) lost at home to third ranked Alcazar (11-4) 67-61 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Alcazar dominated on the defensive end, holding Gran Canaria to just 6 points in third quarter. Gran Canaria was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Lamonte Thomas (187-90, college: J.and Wales, RI) who led his team to a victory with 22 points. Forward Yago Estevez (204-91) contributed with 10 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Senegalese forward Mouhamed Barro (205-95) replied with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Latvian guard Dzeiks-Eduards Krumins (186-97) added 16 points in the effort for Gran Canaria. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Alcazar have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position in Group B with 11-4 record having ten points less than leader L'Hospitalet. Loser Gran Canaria dropped to the eighth place with nine games lost. Alcazar will face Casvi (#11) in Villaviciosa in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Estudiantes B in Madrid and hope to win that game.
