Regular Season Round 19: Estudiantes B - Gran Canaria 86-82

There was a small surprise in Madrid where thirteenth ranked Estudiantes B (5-11) beat 10th ranked Gran Canaria (6-10) 86-82 on Saturday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. It was a great shooting night for Estudiantes B especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.6 percentage. Gran Canaria was plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Sergio Sanchez (189-81) fired 21 points and 7 assists for the winners. Forward Alberto Maura (198-98) chipped in 7 points and 12 rebounds. Guard Joaquin Portugues (185-95) produced 23 points and 8 assists and forward Jose Blazquez (197-97) added 15 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Estudiantes B moved-up to eleventh place in Group B, which they share with Casvi and La Roda. Gran Canaria lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Estudiantes B will face Casvi (#12) in Villaviciosa in the next round.
