Regular Season Round 22: Guantanamo - Pinar del Rio 71-62

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Guantanamo (9-10) beat at home 6th ranked Pinar (7-13) 71-62 on Saturday. They outrebounded Pinar 34-16 including a 25-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international swingman Yoannis Soria (195-86) notched 17 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and swingman Elvis Pons (194-83) supported him with 16 points. Even 16 points, 6 assists and 5 steals by the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) did not help to save the game for Pinar. Jaciel Martinez (190-91) added 17 points and 4 steals for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guantanamo have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 9-10 record. Pinar lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 13 games lost. Guantanamo will meet at home league's leader Ciego in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Pinar will play against Santiago (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
