Regular Season Round 20: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi Rishon 86-84

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 6th ranked Maccabi Rishon (10-10) was edged on the road by seventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (10-10) 86-84 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 8 points after first quarter, but they rallied back and won the game by 2 points. Maccabi Ashdod looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was American power forward Charles Thomas (203-86, college: Arkansas) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds (on 13-of-15 shooting from the field). The other American import point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) chipped in 22 points. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Zvi Sherf used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American power forward Darryl Monroe (201-86, college: George Mason) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists and international swingman Shawn Dawson (198-93) added 25 points respectively for the guests. Maccabi Ashdod moved-up to sixth place, which they share with defeated Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi Rishon lost third consecutive game. Maccabi Ashdod will face higher ranked Bnei Hasharon (#4) in Hod Hasharon in the next round and it may be quite challenging game.
