Brujos (1-0) outlasted Caciques (0-1) in overtime by two points 89-87. Caciques were ahead by 8 points after three quarters before a 23-15 charge of Brujos, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in overtime eventually winning that period 15-13. Brujos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Caciques' 28 and made 22-of-25 charity shots (88.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Caciques 50-31 including a 16-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. Brujos brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. American forward Malcolm Lee (196-90, college: UCLA) nailed 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and the former international center Kleon Penn (213-86, college: McNeese St., agency: Paris Global Sports) accounted for 13 points, 16 rebounds and 6 blocks. Penn is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Brandon Costner (206-87, college: N.Carolina St.) came up with 26 points (made all of his eight free throws) and the former international swingman Edwin Ubiles (198-86, college: Siena) added 16 points and 5 assists respectively for Caciques in the defeat. Five Brujos and four Caciques players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Brujos will play against Leones (#10) in Juana Diaz in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Caciques will play at home against Indios and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
