Cangrejeros used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Arecibo 72-65 on Thursday night. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 17-7. But Capitanes won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Cangrejeros dominated on the defensive end, holding Capitanes to just 7 points in first quarter. They outrebounded Capitanes 48-30 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Cangrejeros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. American forward Damion James (201-87, college: Texas, agency: Priority Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward Javon McCrea (201-92, college: Buffalo) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side the former international swingman Joel Jones (196-81, college: Sacramento St.) responded with 20 points and 6 rebounds and the former international guard Guillermo Diaz (188-85, college: Miami, FL) scored 17 points and 5 assists. Cangrejeros will face Vaqueros (#8) in Bayamon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Capitanes will play at home against Atleticos and hope to win that game.
