Regular Season Round 1: Bayamon - Manati 78-85

Date: February 26, 2016
The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Vaqueros (0-1) in Bayamon on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Manati (1-0) 85-78. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-78. Manati shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. Panamanian-American swingman Gary Forbes (201-85, college: Virginia) stepped up and scored 19 points for the winners and guard Jonathan Garcia (183-87) chipped in 10 points and 8 assists. Manati's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international swingman Alex Franklin (198-88, college: Siena) responded with 20 points and the former international guard Miguel Ali Berdiel (198-83, college: Valparaiso) scored 13 points and 6 rebounds. Five Manati and four Vaqueros players scored in double figures. Manati is looking forward to face Piratas (#4) in Quebradillas in the next round. Vaqueros will play on the road against Cangrejeros in Santurce and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
